01 NACO Kerigan and VNACO Vass confer
Wednesday, August 26. A few times each year the operating committee of the Auxiliary meets in a closed door session. During the eight hour meeting each Assistant National Commodore (ANACO) and their respective department directors (DIR) present their latest achievements and plans for the future.

The Directors are encouraged to communicate and bring problems and situations to the floor that could be assisted by the skills of other Directors. “I urge each of you to cross-communicate and take advantage of the skills available,” said Vice Commodore Jim Vass.

Mr. John Malateck, CG HQ Recreational Boating Safety Department, presented a new series of boating safety public service announcements. They take a new tack in the war against boating fatalities, incorporating “shock” to the message. You can view this message on the cg aux site www.cgaux.org

Chief Director of Auxiliary, Captain Mark Rizzo, read the new Commandant’s policy for the Auxiliary. Calling us a ‘force multiplier” and charging the Auxiliary to maintain its high standards in recreational boating safety instruction.

The International departments, new to the OPCOM, presented their current programs. They are assisting in the formation of Auxiliaries around the world. The Interpreter Corps has expanded to a first class service to the Coast Guard and the US Navy.

Due to the “closed door” status of the meeting the other reports will be issued by the individual departments as they deem fit.
