KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. - With the arrival of the new orange Vessel Safety Check decals, Coast Guard Auxiliary Vessel Examiners have taken to boat ramps and marinas in the Southern U.S. with a fresh vigor toward promoting recreational boating safety.
Vessel Examiner James Simpson, Flotilla 11, District 7 (shown here) inspects a rental fleet of power boats at the marina located in Key Biscayne, Fla. Simpson was contacted by the fleet manager through the safetyseal.net website.
“The safetyseal.net website is a great way for the boating public to locate a certified vessel examiner in their vicinity,” said Simpson. The first thing every new vessel examiner should do after they complete their certification is to register on the site. That is an easy way for the boating public to locate them.”
Simpson inspected 11 power boats on this particular evening with seven passing the safety check and four requiring additional or updated safety equipment. Simpson plans to return to the location within a week to re-inspect the remaining four vessels.
