The Auxiliary Monitoring Program (AUXMON) provides “quality control” monitoring of a variety of Marine Safety Information broadcasts that originate from the Coast Guard’s two Command Area Master Stations (CAMSPAC & CAMSLANT) Pacific and Atlantic.

The Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation Award was presented to four members of the Pacific Area AUXMON Team on March 29, 2010 at USCG Base Support Unit-San Pedro, California.  The awards were presented to Auxiliarists Philip Malouf, John Olson, William H. Scholz, and Lloyd Simmons who represented the members of the entire Auxiliary AUXMON team..

The awards were presented by CDR Cary Porter, Commanding Officer of Communications Area Master Station Pacific and LT Christopher Fox, Operations Officer at CAMSPAC..  In addition, the ceremony was attended by CDR Greg Matlin, Director of Auxiliary, District 11 Southern Region and CWO2 Tommy Kron, Operations Training Officer (OTO- D11-SR).

The Meritorious Team Commendation was awarded to a total of 13 AUXMON Team Members:  Five in District 11 Southern Region, five in District 11 Northern Region, two in District 13, and one in District 5 Southern Region.  In the near future an award ceremony will be held in District 11 Northern Region where the citation and ribbon will be presented to the five team members in that District.

Brief of the Citation:

…On 27 February 2010 Auxiliary personnel responded to a massive earthquake near Chile that generated a Pacific Wide tsunami.  Immediately after the earthquake, PACIFIC AUXMON stood up personnel and equipment.  Without prompting, you dedicated professionals began actively scanning for mariners in distress and prepared to assist COMMSTAs Honolulu and Kodiak in case their operations were impacted.  The dedication, pride and professionalism displayed by the Pacific Area Monitoring Team reflect positively upon each member, the United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary.

For the Commandant
