Palawan, Republic of the Philippines.  Members of the Philippine Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary participated in the ground breaking ceremony of a monument to honor World War II Prisoners of War.

Most of the 147 American Prisoners of War were burned alive when the Japanese Imperial Army decided to vacate the camp, here in Palawan.  Attending the dedication ceremony were high ranking officers from both the Philippine Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Honored during the ceremony was ex-Prisoner of War and camp survivor Sgt. Don Schlot.

The project was headed by the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary.  The local city government donated the funds for the project.It took 65 years to make a lasting memory of those soldiers, but finally, the project is completed.
