Margaret D. Schulze

From: Commandant
To: Ms. Margaret D. Schulze, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
Subj: LETTER OF COMMENDATION

1. I note with pride and am pleased to commend you for your performance of duty while serving as Chief, Publications Branch from October 2007 to October 2008. Demonstrating exceptional enthusiasm and organizational skill, you deftly coordinated the Auxiliary Boating Department’s most recent partnerships with two corporate boating safety organizations. Immediately upon appointment to this challenging national staff position, you worked closely with the National Boating Department Chief to identify, organize, and implement essential elements of a Memorandum of Agreement with Orion Safety Products. As this Agreement entered its implementation phase, you concurrently initiated a series of meetings with the staff of Heartland Boating Magazine in St. Louis, Missouri in order to craft another Memorandum of Agreement aimed at benefiting recreational boating safety on the lakes and rivers of our nation’s Midwest and Southeast regions. Your remarkable negotiation skills were instrumental to the Agreement’s implementation in September 2008.

2. You are commended for your outstanding performance of duty. By your meritorious service, you have upheld the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.

3. You are hereby authorized to wear the Auxiliary Commandant’s Letter of Commendation Ribbon Bar.

For the Commandant,

Personnel Services Team

The Commandant of the Coast Guard takes pleasure in presenting the COAST GUARD MERITORIOUS TEAM COMMENDATION to:

UNITED STATES COAST GUARD AUXILIARY
PERSONNEL SERVICES TEAM

for services set forth in the following CITATION:

“For exceptionally meritorious service from October 2006 to September 2008 while serving on the Personnel Services Team. Combining keen insight with its remarkable spirit of service, the Team strategically aligned its efforts with the National Commodore’s watchwords, “Recruiting, Retention, and Responsibility,” to design a recruiting program that balanced Auxiliary recruiting messages across all mission areas. Exercising superior creativity and initiative, the Team created a diverse array of recruiting tools including posters, presentation materials, and personal outreach activity plans. The Team also developed programs and materials that facilitated the collection and analysis of membership data in order to target specific strategies to counteract Auxiliarists’ tendencies to disenroll. The Team’s extraordinary devotion to rebuilding the Auxiliary in the wake of significant losses due to implementation of mandatory background checks and stiff competition posed by many other organizations for America’s volunteers were instrumental to the overall net increase in Auxiliary membership of more than 2,500 new members. The dedication, pride, and professionalism displayed by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Personnel Services Team are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.”

International Nautical Terms Dictionary Team

The Commandant of the Coast Guard takes pleasure in presenting the COAST GUARD MERITORIOUS TEAM COMMENDATION to:

UNITED STATES COAST GUARD AUXILIARY
INTERNATIONAL NAUTICAL TERMS DICTIONARY TEAM

for services set forth in the following CITATION:

“For exceptionally meritorious service from April 2008 to January 2009 while serving on the International Nautical Terms Dictionary Team. The Team adeptly applied its extraordinary foreign language capabilities and special linguistic skills to translate the Expanded Glossary of Nautical Terms contained in the Coast Guard Boat Crew Seamanship Manual from English into French, Italian, Russian, and Spanish languages. This unique initiative required not only a strong working knowledge of Coast Guard terminology, but also complete understanding of nautical vocabulary and Coast Guard operational skills. The Team artfully melded these competencies with its in-depth knowledge of the respective foreign cultures and traditions in order to overcome frequent challenges posed whenever technical terms did not readily align themselves with common expressions. Demonstrating superb initiative and foresight, the Team created a template for additional foreign languages that may be required by Coast Guard units in the future. As a direct result of the Team’s uncompromising commitment to high quality and innovative service, a quantum leap of improvement was made in the ability of foreign and domestic Coast Guard units and other mariners to readily communicate among themselves. The dedication, pride, and professionalism displayed by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary International Nautical Terms Dictionary Team are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.”

For the Commandant,
