NACON 2009 – The Annual National Conference

Chicago, August 25, 2009.

Well we are actually in Oak Brook, a beautiful, sleepy suburb 30 minutes south of the city.  Auxiliarists from flotillas across the nation have gathered once again to meet, train, renew acquaintances and make new Auxiliary friends.

The annual conclave allows the National Executive Committee (NEXCOM) to meet with subordinates and discuss the implementation of new policies and procedures.  The various Department Chiefs have an opportunity to meet with their respective directorates and the District Commodores meet in their National Planning Meetings (NAPM).

NACON gives Auxiliarists from the “deck plate,” local flotillas, to see the National Board and staff in action.  There are sessions planned where interaction is encouraged and feedback can help shape the course of the Auxiliary’s future.

Senior Coast Guard officials are always a participant of the conference.  In the past the Commandant and other flag officers have presented keynote and specialized addresses.  It is expected that the Commandant will address our formal gathering on Saturday night.
The Conference staff, led by Conference Coordinator Ernie Davenport, has expended many hours, behind the scenes, to make this, the 2009 NACON, the best ever.
