NACON 2009 – 1st Timers’ Workshop
Chicago, August 27. A tradition was started at NACON a few years ago, a 1st Timers’ Workshop. ponsored by the Past Commodore’s Association under the direction of Association President Rick Ives, the workshop has eased first time conference attendees in the maze of activity offerings. Workshop hosts and facilitators Past National Commodore Viggo Bertelsen and Commodore Carolyn Belmore pointed out the ins and out of enjoyment at NACON. “There is a lot to see and do,” said Commodore Bertelsen, “you can pick and choose what you do based on your own personal interests.” This workshop was attended by 46 Auxiliarists from all parts of the country. Many, of course, were from the D9-WR area, but there were 1st timers from all parts of the country. The Commodores highlighted many features of the conference including the many training opportunities. Commodore Bertelsen invited all to attend some of the meetings and sessions that feature National Auxiliary business and excellent guest speakers, including Commandant Admiral Thad Allen. “We don’t neglect the fourth cornerstone, fellowship,” said Commodore Belmore. She described the three main social activities of the conference using a photo slide show of past conferences. “Many new friendships are waiting to be made,” she said. A rousing session of questions and answers followed the hour long workshop.
