March 8, 2009. Huntington Harbor, CA. In Southern California, we have a hip saying, “Let’s Do Lunch”! Auxiliarists of Flotilla 15-8 decided to “Do Lunch VE Style” by combining vessel examinations and lunch as well.
Sixty percent of the flotilla’s members are qualified vessel examiners. With such capabilities the flotilla has set a yearly objective of doing a minimum of 250 vessel safety checks.. According to the Flotilla Vice Commander Roy Lay, “We have a very enthusiastic group and they are determined to not only reach our goal but exceed it.”
The Flotilla wanted to get a “jump start” in early March because lobster season is in full swing off the coast of Southern California. A lot of boats will be leaving the harbor to get their share of those man size lobsters.
The Flotilla Vessel Safety Check Officer (FSO-VE) Richard Hazboun, organized the outing for the flotilla. In the course of his job Auxiliarist Hazboun assured that the flotilla’s vessel examiners had ample 2009 stickers and forms. He also made sure that there was lots of food for the vessel examiners after a long day of working the Huntington Harbor boat ramp.
The
flotilla is very fortunate to have a gourmet cook in their ranks, Auxiliarist
Frank Gonzales. Frank worked the “grill” while the other members
“worked” the docks. One might say,” it was truly a TEAM EFFORT.
