Many Auxiliarists from the Gulf Coast and other areas assembled to assist officials and residents in the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav. Thankfully, the storm reduced in intensity prior to hitting the area and the worst case scenario was pretty much avoided. The storm still left areas in Mississippi and Louisiana, especially New Orleans and vicinity, with wind and flood damage. Many residents were left without sustenance, shelter or utilities.
Working in conjunction with the Incident Command Center and Coast Guard stations, Auxiliarists were able to fit into the Logistics segment and provide a needed supply effort. Volunteering their energy, time and trucks, Auxiliarists were able to transport water, food, medical and other materials where needed.
Hundreds of Auxiliary man-hours were volunteered in this effort.
