On-Water Towing

The purpose of this event is to evaluate the team’s ability to successfully complete towing and man overboard evolutions observing all standard policies and practices.
All scenarios have been developed and will be graded using the US Coast Guard Boat Crew Seamanship Manual M16114.5C.
- Upon arrival at this event, the team will be assigned to a Coast Guard Auxiliary Facility (AuxFac). A certified Coast Guard Auxiliary Coxswain, who will provide no input and is responsible for the safe operation of the vessel, will drive the AuxFac.
- The team will be required to don all personal protective equipment (PPE) necessary for underway operations. The AuxFac Coxswain will brief the team on the AuxFac capabilities and safety equipment.
- The AuxFac will depart the dock with the Auxiliary crew and judge onboard to execute the towing and man overboard evolutions.
- At the end of the exercise, a point score will be assigned to the team.
Scoring – This event is worth 100 points. The team will be evaluated on the following areas: safety, proper wearing of PPE, radio and team communications, proper towing and man overboard procedures. Scoring for this event will be based on aforementioned areas. 100 points for 1st place, 90 points for 2nd place, 80 points for 3rd place descending to 20 points for 9th place.
