Mr. NUNES is cited for superior performance of duty while serving as Deputy Chief, Public Affairs Department from January to August 2008. Mr. NUNES applied superlative program insight and leadership skill to enhance the professional development and performance of Auxiliary Public Affairs staff officers across the nation. Working closely with the Coast Guard’s Auxiliary Division, he served as principal coordinator for the Auxiliary Public Affairs C-school training program. Mr. NUNES’ efforts as an instructor and program manager were instrumental to the timely conduct of five C-school classes and successful training of nearly 100 Auxiliary Public Affairs staff officers. He inventively applied lessons learned and information from other distance learning models to establish new procedures and expanded capabilities for staff officers to improve their learning opportunities through the Auxiliary e-Learning Portal. As a result of his dedicated effort and meticulous attention to detail, he expanded training program materials by more than 30 percent including new and attractive online courses that helped qualify over 125 new staff officers in the first six months. Mr. NUNES’ diligence, perseverance, and devotion to duty are most heartily commended and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.
