Mr. TRASK is cited for outstanding achievement while serving as Chief, Personnel Department from November 2006 to August 2008. A consummate human resources director, Mr. TRASK maximized Auxiliary alignment with the National Commodore’s thematic watchwords, “Recruiting, Retention, and Responsibility,” by effectively tailoring and balancing the focus of Auxiliary recruiting messages across all mission areas. Exercising keen insight and technical savvy, he supervised the design of a new, attractive tri-fold, full color recruiting brochure that coincided with the Auxiliary’s new Join the Auxiliary web site. This remarkable recruiting tool triggered unparalleled popularity among Auxiliary ranks and experienced an incredible distribution rate of more than 250,000 copies in less than eight months. Mr. TRASK similarly designed and implemented initiatives that yielded posters, print-ready advertisements, recruiting presentations, and radio spots supporting Auxiliary recruiting. Executing a decisive action plan to boost Auxiliary membership, he sought out the assistance of Auxiliary Personnel Services officers at all levels of the organization and successfully motivated them to embrace this plan. The two major recruiting drives initiated in this plan added more than 1,500 new members to the Auxiliary in 2008 and contributed to the overall net increase in Auxiliary membership of over 2,500 new members during his tenure. Demonstrating an exceptionally innovative spirit, Mr. TRASK created the Auxiliary’s new Retention Division within its Personnel Department to assist Flotilla Personnel Services officers by creating programs and materials for use in diagnosing and countering tendencies for Auxiliarists to leave the organization. Mr. TRASK’s dedication, judgment, and devotion to duty are most heartily commended and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.
