MYSTERY EVENT “A”: BLIND PILOTAGE
Event Description
After boarding the IRB, a non-competitive driver will take the IRB and team to a docking position in front of HFC. This driver will remain on board as a safety officer throughout the event. A safety gate will be placed on the IRB’s controls to limit speed to three knots.
The team will take the following actions:
- One member of the team will be selected by the team as driver and be blindfolded.
- Using only voice or touch commands, the team will direct the driver away from the dock, down the course and through a floating gateway.
- Team members may not touch the dock or physically assist in undocking.
- After passing through the floating gate a new driver will be team-selected and blindfolded.
- The new driver will steer the IRB back through the gate, down the course and redock the IRB in its original position.
- Team members may not touch the dock or physically assist in docking.
Scoring
- This is a timed event.
- Safety and seamanship will be evaluated.
- A 10-second penalty will be assessed for each touch of the IRB on the gate.
- A 10-second penalty will be assessed for each assist to the driver, other than voice or touch commands while docking or undocking.
- Failure to complete the event within the time limit warrants a 3-minute penalty.
Time limit – 10 minutes from the command start.
MYSTERY EVENT “B”: Manikin Rescue
Safety stop for all events… 5 blasts on the whistle.
Note 1. Competitors will be issued with and wear PFDs and helmets for this event.
2. Competitors will board their assigned IRB at Marina 4 for this event.
Event description:
Team members will number from #1 to #4. Team members #1 to #3 will start at the lakeside of Natrel Pond (south) and team member #4 will start at the building side of Natrel Pond (north).
The competitors will take the following action:
- Team members #1 and #2 will board the dinghy and paddle across the pond to #4.
- Team member #2 will leave the dinghy and team member #4 will board the dinghy with a stretcher.
- Team members #1 and #4 will paddle to, recover, and safely load a manikin on the stretcher and paddle the dinghy and the manikin back to team member #2.
- The manikin and stretcher will be safely unloaded, member #1 will leave the dinghy and member #3, the stretcher and manikin will be loaded back on the dinghy.
- Team members #3 and #4 will then paddle the dinghy, manikin and stretcher back to team member #2 and safely unload the manikin and stretcher.
- Event complete.
Scoring:
- This is a timed event.
- Safety and seamanship will be evaluated.
- A 10-second penalty will be assessed each time one of the following unsafe actions occur:
- Loosing control of the manikin.
- Jumping into the dinghy.
- Throwing the stretcher or manikin.
- A 30-second penalty will be given for capsizing the dinghy or moving the dinghy other than paddling.
Time limit – 10 minutes from command start.
