Purpose
This event evaluates the teams’ ability to assess the condition of the hull of a distressed vessel, to apply emergency repairs as required, and to utilize the Honda WH15X pump to dewater the vessel.

Expectations
The Competitors are expected to do the following:
• Demonstrate seamanship and safety skills;
• Operate the Honda WH15X dewatering pump;
• Demonstrate the ability to make emergency hull repairs;
• Demonstrate seamanship skills related to operating a manually propelled rowboat.

The Competitors will row a 14’ wooden, double-ended rowboat (rescue boat) across Natrel Pond to a distressed 14’ wooden rowboat docked at the edge of Natrel Pond.  A Honda WH15X dewatering pump, inside its air droppable container, will be on land beside the distressed boat.

The distressed boat is sinking due to a small hole in the hull.  Using the supplied patching kit, competitors will patch the hull and dewater the hull without entering the distressed vessel.  The Honda pump will then be returned to its container and secured.

The Competitors in the rescue boat will row back to the starting point and secure the rowboat.

Equipment
Safety equipment including helmets and inflatable PFDs will be provided to, and worn by the competitors while participating in the event.  Other equipment, including the Honda WHI5X dewatering pump, and material that can be used for emergency repairs, will be provided, and used as required by the competitors.

The Honda WH15X dewatering pump will be available at Harbourfront Centre (HFC) on Thursday September 27th between 1830-2000, and an operational video will be available at the hotel.  Operating instructions are also available on the ISAR Website.

Scoring
Competitors will be scored on the following:
• Seamanship and safety skills implemented using the rescue boat;
• Effective repair of the hull;
• Effective dewatering using the Honda WH15X pump.
• Time taken to complete all tasks will act as a tie breaker.

Judges’ decisions will be final.

There is a 45-minute time limit for this event.
