Thursday, September 27.  There is a group of men and women, both active duty and Auxiliary, both Canadian and American who contribute almost as much energy to the competition as the participants.  These are the judges.  They are on the boats and docks, they watch over the desktop work and they tend the score sheets.

They are easily recognized during the competition by their “white hats.”  Their function is not solely to judge, but to also direct and inform throughout the day.  It is their dedication to fairness that helps make the competitions are successful.

Prior to the start of the events the judges hold their own separate meeting.  They must plan strategies for the days ahead.  Equal to, if not more strenuous, than the tasks in front of the competitors.

All of this responsibility and more… “Everything must stop when five blasts on the whistle is heard,” the whistle around their necks is to insure the safety of the competitors and the spectators
