Saturday, October 28, Portsmouth. The morning weather was not very promising. Rain pelted the area throughout the night but the weatherman cooperated and called a halt to the moisture just in the nick of time. As the time neared for the day’s activities to commence the sun broke through the clouds and started drying the docks and grounds. All of the competitors and observers gathered at the “water stage” to pay tribute to those men and women who did not return from their mission. Following remarks from the distinguished guests National Commodore Gene Seibert and CCGA President, Malcolm Dunderdale carried a memorial wreath to a waiting USCG vessel. The vessel carried the wreath out to sea escorted by water spouting Portsmouth Fire Department boat. |
