Auxiliarist Earns Governor's Safety Award

James E. Crosby of Crozet, Virginia, was presented the 2005 Virginia Governor's Transportation Safety Award for Water Safety at an awards luncheon recently held in the Science Museum of Virginia. William H. Leighty, Chief of Staff for Governor Mark Warner presented the award on his behalf.

Crosby will soon complete 20 years of service in the Auxiliary. He is a past Division Captain of Division 8 of D5-SR and a member of Flotilla 84 in Charlottesville, VA

This is an annual award presented by the Virginia Transportation Safety Board in recognition of individuals and organizations who have made extraordinary contributions to transportation safety in Virginia. Awards are made in many different categories in addition to water safety. These include aviation safety, general traffic safety, motorcycle safety, pedestrian safety, public transportation safety, occupant safety, etc.

Auxiliarist Crosby was presented the Water Safety award in recognition of his having taught hundreds of public boating safety classes over a period of nearly 20 years. He was further recognized for spearheading the establishment of a Coast Guard Auxiliary Search and Rescue Station on nearby Lake Anna. He was also cited for the monthly boating safety column he writes for Virginia Wildlife Magazine which is read by boaters all over Virginia.
