NACON 2004
Ms. SCHOLLE cited for outstanding achievement while serving as Division Chief, Commercial Vessel Examination in the Department of Marine Safety and Environmental Protection from June 2002 to August 2004. Immediately faced with a shortage of Auxiliary Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Examiners (CFVSEs), Ms. SCHOLLE exercised a superb spirit of cooperation by working closely with her Coast Guard counterparts to create a unique “C” school training workshop in the Coast Guard Pacific Area. Demonstrating exceptional leadership and initiative, she then focused on creation of a similar training workshop tailored specifically to Northwest Atlantic fisheries. With remarkable attention to detail and pride of ownership, Ms. SCHOLLE composed comprehensive new Auxiliary CFVS program guidelines that were closely aligned with Coast Guard policies. With tireless conviction, she launched the publication of “Safe at Sea”, a quarterly newsletter that publicized the Auxiliary’s CFVSE program. As a direct result of her efforts, the Auxiliary CFVSE program experienced a 15 percent increase in qualified examiners and provided vital relief to Marine Safety Office resources. Ms. SCHOLLE’s dedication, judgment, and devotion to duty are most heartily commended and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.
