MR. EDWARD E. SWEENEY, III

Mr. SWEENEY is cited for outstanding achievement while serving as Media Division Chief, Department of Public Affairs from 1 January 2002 to 1 September 2004. Demonstrating exceptional leadership and superb organizational skill, Mr. SWEENEY supervised a staff of 14 Auxiliary journalists across the nation as they published dozens of articles for the Auxiliary magazines “SITREP” and “Navigator.” With remarkable perseverance and attention to detail, he thoroughly reviewed, crafted, and disseminated hundreds of news story ideas and informational releases through national public affairs list servers. A model of professionalism, Mr. SWEENEY frequently appeared in television interviews as spokesperson for the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary. He provided invaluable assistance as an instructor for three Auxiliary Public Affairs “C” schools. As a direct result of his pride of program ownership and tireless commitment to service, the public affairs network significantly increased its outreach efforts and cast an outstanding reflection upon the Auxiliary. Mr. SWEENEY’s dedication, judgment, and devotion to duty are most heartily commended and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.
