From: Commandant
To: Ms. Denise Castrogiovanni, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary

Subj: AUXILIARY LETTER OF COMMENDATION

1. I note with pride and am pleased to commend you for your performance of duty while serving as Branch Assistant (Atlantic Area), Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety (CFVS) Division from January 2003 to December 2003. Immediately upon taking office, you quickly established a cohesive CFVS program team that represented five Auxiliary regions working among the largest commercial fishing fleets in the nation. With remarkable determination, you helped achieve the goals of Operation Patriot Readiness by identifying ways to tap the unique skills found within Auxiliary membership, significantly increase the number of qualified examiners, and raise the overall capacity of the Auxiliary to support its Coast Guard counterparts. Employing your superb experience and proficiency as an examiner and instructor, you strengthened the partnerships between Captains of the Port and Marine Safety Offices and the Auxiliary by ensuring that examiners were properly trained and available to meet program demands. As a result of your outstanding leadership, extensive Auxiliary CFVS program augmentation allowed active duty resources to focus on many other maritime homeland security missions.

2. You are commended for your outstanding performance of duty. By your meritorious service you have upheld the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.

3. You are hereby authorized to wear the Auxiliary Commandant’s Letter of Commendation Ribbon Bar.

For the Commandant,

B.P. SMITH
Captain, U.S. Coast Guard
Chief Director of Auxiliary
