COMMODORE EVERETTE L. TUCKER, JR.

1. Commodore Tucker, from 1 November 2002 to 31 October 2003, served as the Chair of the National Legislative Liaison Committee and from 1 November 2003 to 3 September as Deputy Chair of the same committee by choice. As Chair COMO Tucker revitalized the activities of the State Liaisons to ensure that the National leadership of the Auxiliary and Coast Guard Headquarters, specifically G-OCX and G-OPB, were aware of activities within the State Legislatures that could/would have an affect on RBS activities. This information was used to ensure appropriate boating safety information was presented in all safe boating out reach activities with each state and to assist the Coast Guard in their interactions with safe boating organizations. He also mentored his deputy to the point at which he, the deputy, was recommended to replace Como Tucker as Chair commencing 1 November 2003. Como Tucker, as Deputy Chair, continued to work with the new Chair in a fully supportive role.
2. As Director of International Affairs Como Tucker fostered international relationships in concert with the Coast Guard’s international program and objectives with Canada, nations of the Caribbean, international volunteer organizations (BASRA, VISAR, CITRO), AFRAS and the ILF. Como tucker routinely was called on to make presentations concerning safe boating, volunteer SAR and the Auxiliary organization as it supports RBS and SAR. He also monitored the development and administration of the Auxiliary Interpreter Corps of about 250 Auxiliarists with capabilities in some 50 languages.
3. Como Tucker was the Chair for the planning, obtaining of funds, coordination with the Coast Guard and SOUTHCOM, scheduling of presenters and execution of the second Caribbean Volunteer Maritime Search and Rescue (CSAR) held in Miami 14-15 May. The results of this most successful conference further reinforced the value to this venue within the Caribbean basin and stimulated interest in a similar program in some European countries.
