COMMODORE GEORGE E. JEANDHEUR

Commodore JEANDHEUR is cited for exceptionally meritorious service to the Government of the United States in a position of great responsibility as National Directorate Commodore for Operations and Marine Safety from January 1997 to September 2004. Commodore JEANDHEUR exercised exemplary leadership, exceptional foresight, and superb program management skill in guiding the Auxiliary’s operations and marine safety programs to unprecedented levels of readiness and support to Coast Guard missions. During this period, Commodore JEANDHEUR led the design and establishment of today’s Auxiliary Operations and Marine Safety Directorate. Working closely with the Assistant Commandant for Marine Safety and Environmental Protection, he oversaw creation of the Auxiliary Trident Program that redefined and markedly increased Auxiliary support to Captains of the Port and Marine Safety Offices. Meeting the Commandant’s mandate to improve Auxiliary aviation organization and safety, Commodore JEANDHEUR’s determined efforts were instrumental in the establishment of a two-pilot requirement for operational missions, comprehensive revision of the Auxiliary Aviation Operations Manual, and implementation of the aviation squadron concept between Coast Guard air stations and District Auxiliary aviation programs. Working tirelessly to guide the Auxiliary’s Operation Patriot Readiness to its goal of increased Auxiliary readiness and capacity, Commodore JEANDHEUR shepherded rapid Auxiliary operational expansion as surface, aviation, and communications programs nearly doubled their activity and facility levels in less than two years. Commodore JEANDHEUR’s leadership, dedication, and devotion to duty are most heartily commended and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.
