Team Coast Guard
April 17, 2004 was a beautiful day and it began a series of 350th anniversary celebrations for Calvert County, MD. A parade and festival in downtown Prince Frederick was the kickoff event to celebrate 350 years of Calvert County history. Active duty and Auxiliarists deemed it an honor to be part of this event. The morning started early for five Coast Guard Auxiliarists from Flotilla 15-6, Drum Point, MD. John Cosgrove, Past Rear Commodore, D5-SR, and his wife, Connie Cosgrove, District Staff Officer for Public Affairs began their morning at the old fairgrounds. There they met the Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard and Drill Team and a crew from Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes. Ginger Sauer, Flotilla Public Affairs Officer, with help from fellow Auxiliarist Harry Scott, Flotilla Personnel Services Officer, and William Smith started the morning by delivering materials and their safety booth to Main Street. Task completed, they joined the rest of the contingent for the line-up of parade participants. The parade route was approximately 1.5 to two miles. The Honor Guard and Drill Team led the Coast Guard contingent. As the parade stopped along the route the Drill Team gave abbreviated performances raising cheers and whistles from the spectators. They also performed in front of the Calvert County commissioners, who were on the reviewing stand.
Following the Honor Guard and Drill Team in the parade the Station’s new safe boat, CG25426, was towed by SK2 Bart Bicknell. Station personnel passed out “CG pencils” to youngsters along the route. They received many "thumbs up” and “nice boat" along the parade route. Auxiliarist William Smith, Connie Cosgrove, Ginger Sauer and Harry Scott
marched behind CG 25426 rounding out Team Coast Guard’s participation.
