"HEAVING LINE 2"

(Click here to see pictures.)

The purpose of this event is to evaluate the team's ability to safely start, operate, and maneuver an inflatable boat through an on-water obstacle course, effect a rescue of a person in the water (PIW) and return to the starting point of the exercise.

1. Upon arrival at this event, the team will be assigned to a 7 to 10 foot inflatable boat with a 2 1/2 horsepower outboard motor. The boat will be secured alongside a floating dock;
2. The team will be required to don all PPE necessary for boat operations;
3. The boat crew will consist of 2 team members. The third team member will remain on the floating dock and will assist the boat crew as required;
4. Once the exercise is started, the team will board the inflatable boat from the floating dock and start the outboard engine, slip the bow and stern lines and properly navigate the on-water obstacle course of port and starboard hand buoys to the rescue zone. Please note that a 10 second penalty will be applied to the team's overall score each time that the inflatable boat makes contact with a buoy;
5. Upon arrival at the rescue zone (identifiable by the on-water barrier), a rescue line will be thrown to the person-in-the-water (PIW);
6. Once a line contact has been established, the PIW will be towed to the inflatable boat. Please note that the inflatable boat must remain outside of the rescue zone at all times. Failure to achieve this will result in a 20 second penalty being applied to the team's overall score;
7. Once the PIW makes hand contact with the inflatable boat and subsequently pushes clear of the boat, the team will navigate the obstacle course back to the start point at the floating dock;
8. Once alongside, the inflatable boat must be properly secured, the engine shut off and the rescue line properly stowed in the throw bag. At this time the crew will disembark to the floating dock and the event will end.

Please note that any violations in the safe operation of the inflatable boat, the proper wearing of PPE or the safety of the PIW will result in additional penalties of 20 seconds being applied to the team's overall score for each violation.

The team with the fastest time (including penalties) will receive 120 points. The team with the second fastest time will receive 110 points and so on.
